12 Crunchy Parmesan Crackers Holiday Baking If you're looking for something fun to do with Mom or Dad during holiday vacations or snow days, why not make homemade crackers? You might have these ingredients in your pantry already! Ask a parent to help you with the steps in red, especially when it involves cutting with a sharp knife or using the oven. Pair these yummy crackers with a glass of milk or a serving of your favorite fruit. Or, wrap them in decorated baggies and give them out as gifts to family and friends! INGREDIENTS: 2 cups King Arthur ® White Whole Wheat Flour ½ teaspoon Big Y ® salt 1 cup Big Y grated Parmesan cheese, plus additional for topping ½ cup Big Y cold unsalted butter ½ cup Big Y 1% lowfat milk DIRECTIONS: 1. Preheat oven to 400°F. 2. Whisk together flour, salt and Parmesan. 3. Add cold butter, working it in with a mixer until no large pieces remain. 4. With the mixer running, drizzle in milk until the dough comes together. (Note: you may not need to use the entire ½ cup.) 5. Gather the dough into a ball and squeeze it a few times to bring it together. Divide it into three pieces. 6. Working with one piece of dough at a time, flatten it into a rough square and place it on a lightly floured work surface. Roll the dough so it's about a 10-inch square. 7. Transfer the dough to a piece of parchment. Cut the dough into 1-inch squares using a sharp knife or pizza cutter. Do not separate the cracker squares. 8. Lift the piece of parchment/crackers onto a baking sheet. 9. Sprinkle crackers with additional grated cheese, then repeat with remaining pieces of dough. 10. Bake crackers for about 15 minutes, until they're medium golden brown in color. Remove from the oven and cool right on the pan. 11. When crackers are cool, store in an airtight container at room temperature. NOTE FOR PARENTS: As the crackers bake, the ones around the edge will brown more quickly than the ones in the center. If you'd like, remove the pan from the oven, carefully transfer the crackers around the edge to a cooling rack, and return the pan to the oven to continue baking until the remainder of the crackers are golden brown.
